Silicone vs. loctite

RS is right. If you use globs of silicone, it can flake off and get in the oil and cause blockage. However, I h ave looked for this loctite stuff locally, and can never seem to find it. So if you can't find it, silicone (although less than ideal) will work just fine- every Saab mechanic I know uses silicone for this job.

The main idea is: Use the least amount of sticky sh|t possible to acheive the desired effect. Which is, keeping the gasket affixed to the valve cover just long enough to flip it over and place it on the head without causing the gasket to become distorted or fall off.

Bottom line is, unless you're taking this car to heaven with you, the last thing you have to worry about is some microscopic piece of silicone flaking off, and causing a blockage in the smallest hole at worst time possible...
