Good analogy, Stephen.
My brother-in-law has a 9^3 sport sedan. I had the pleasure of driving it last christmas. It drives and feels very much like a C900, with the exception that it has much better low end torque and a more even flow of power throughout the RPM range than a C900T ever thought of having.
Like Andrew says, the people over here on the C900 board wouldn't think of buying one. The truths behind that are that we're either too young and broke to afford one or that we think that the C900 is the be-all and end-all of SAABism. All of our C900s are all getting prettly long-in-the tooth. They're already dropping like our WW II vetrans despite our best effort to keep them alive.
Whether individuals among us like platform-sharing, that's the way the business is going. If we don't want cars like that, we can always buy cars like the Talbo or Citroens. (Oh wait, those are either incredibly expensive or just not available in the US market.)
