Starting a car takes a big chunk out of a battery. You started with a dead battery, and the few minutes of driving around is nowhere near enough time to recharge it completely. The drive 5 minutes then restart brought it down. A warm car is usually easier to start than a cold one; if nothing else, the frictional losses are lower because the oil has been circulating and is warm. Also, batteries work on chemistry, and a warm battery can produce more current than a cold one.
I agree with John - stick that baby on a charger for at least 5-6 hours, overnight is best. The other method is to drive it on the highway for a while. Around town driving works, just not well - low speeds and power-consuming brake lights divert power from the battery charging.
If your cellphone battery dies, you can stick it on the charger for 5 minutes and maybe get another short call out of it. But you'd better do a full charge to get full use. Same with the car, and car battery technology isn't as fancy as cell phones.
