blinker trouble (not related to brakes...)

heres the situation with my '89 900 4 door...
all of my lights work fine in any situation except for the blinkers. when i flip on a signal (right or left doesnt matter which) the respective front blinker comes on and stays on, no blinking. the rear one does not come on at all. i tried applying the brakes and seeing if the rear blinker would come on then, but it doesnt.
i have tested all the fuses and bulbs, all are working fine, i replaced the signal relay today and there was no change... there are 5 wires running to the relay, 1 red, 2 black (into same connector), and 2 green (into same connector). there is power on the red wire but not at the other two connectors... i think everything is grounded correctly.
at the front and back light assemblies the wires for the blinkers are white w/ red stripe, there must be some place where the wires from the relay are split from red or black(from the relay) to white w/ red stripe(leading to the light assmeblies)
some one pleases help lol
