Dash lighting experts needed...

Don't listen to your car stereo when doing electrical work inside the car. I should have known better.
I was running some wires off the ash tray light and shorted them out by accident/negligence. The light used to work fine, now when I test the leads with my voltmeter, both wires read ground.
Also, every dash light is out.
I had hoped that the solution would be to replace the fuse, but the fuse is fine and the other components that run off that fues work too.
I know the rheostat isn't the culprit. Where is the best place to start looking for a problem that affects ALL the lighting?
Thanks, Chris 85t
