Overheating has a number of possible causes. Low coolant due to a leak, thermostat stuck closed, inoperative cooling fans, radiator problems, etc. (On my '86 it was a clogged radiator.) Hope you haven't been driving your car around much this way, you will have almost certainly blown the head gasket, and possibly warped the cylinder head or caused other engine damage.
There is a single wiper motor that works both wipers. The driver's side is run from a cable looped around cam in the wiper mechanism. The cam is a press fit on the wiper's shaft and commonly comes loose. It is also possible the cable may have worn to the point of breaking. The entire wiper assembly comes out pretty easily for repair.
