As John B says, solder in a small loop of regular stranded copper wire to fix a break in the heating element. It won't affect the function of the heating element in any significant way. There's no need for insulation; the rest of the wire is bare anyway. If you don't put in a strain relief loop, the wire will flex at the connection and you can expect it to break again soon.
Soldering is best way to make the connections. It is electrically sound and avoids the lump associated with a crimp connector.
