HOW close to the top does it go? 1/4" from the top is normal IF it comes down when the fans go on.
If you turn on the AC does the temp maintain at 1/2 or less? If so, no problem with radiator.
You may have a radiator thermoswitch problem or a failed thermo timer relay...see the townsend imports.com website for a tutorial on bypassing this relay. Also consider replacing the radiator thermoswitch with a lower temp switch.
I've got around 260K on my 87 900T w/AT...I replaced my radiator years ago. It may be just time for you.
Also, general wisdom is to change out the thermostat and flush/fill the coolant system every two years. Mercedes coolant works well...I haven't changed mine for two years now and I'm considering extending it to three, but I've only put 10-15K on the car in two years.
