Leaking...

I have a moderate leak at the expansion tank my '86 900 T. I tighten the clamp (or so I thought) a week ago, the leak stopped. Will it hurt to tighten it more or do I risk cracking the neck? I am planning on removing the tank to check for any damage to the neck. The leak is not a gusher, but it is enough to leave a small puddle after a short drive. Should I get another expansion tank just in case? TIA
