I have a few rotary tools. The Dremel is one of them. Personally I feel it is a little weak for automotive applications. In a pinch it will suffice. The tiny cut-off wheels wear quickly. However there are times when it can save the day. I have a Craftsmen electric die grinder that I have had for years. It uses standard cutting wheels. Also I have an air die grinder. All 3 have seen quite a bit of use. If you donot have access to an air compressor I would reccomend a Dremmel backed up my a Craftsman ( better yet Makita electric die grinder).
A little word on safety. Any time you use cut-off tools, always wear eye protection. I was wearing safetyglsses while grinding and still managed to get get metal in my eye. The glasses had side shields. I now wear a full face shield when cutting or grinding along with glasses.
