same problem on fixer upper i bought Posted by Saabu [Email] (#1133) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Saabu) on Thu, 11 Dec 2003 22:13:45 In Reply to: Break lights always on!!!!, Daniel, Thu, 11 Dec 2003 08:26:23 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I replaced the brake booster and all of a sudden brake lights would not shut off. luckily dash and windshield were out (this is a major fixer upper!!!) so could see cause of problem pretty quickly.
however, after checking at least 3 of my manuals (Bentley, Saab Factory Manual and Haynes) and their vague instructions, i decided i had to unscrew the switch completely and insert some sort of spacer to move the switch closer to the pedal.
after breaking the delicate brake switch upon reinstalling, i stumbled across the information that none of the manuals had, and this is what you have to do to adjust the switch:
on the drivers side of the switch bracket there is a nut and bolt holding the switch to the pedal bracket. loosen this slightly and slide the switch towards the pedal (in the rest position) until your lights go out, then retighten the nut.
Do not undo the cotter pin or unscrew the brake switch, because it's a horribly difficult task and will not solve the problem - access is next to impossible because of all the wires and hoses down there.
i should keep a list of all the shortcomings of all these manuals. how the heck are we supposed to have success if none of 3 manuals can tell us the tricks?
