I've got MB Quarts in another car and they do sound very good.
In the convertible I recently put in a new head unit and speakers and went the less expensive route. Crutchfield had a special on Polks for the front and rear (both drop in replacements) at roughlyu $35 and $45. I then got a Panansonic CD headunit that could play MP3/WMA s. Panansonic is not one of the fancier brand names I'd typically look to, but the unit was about $150 and with the features it had, I thought I'd take a shot. I was quite surprised that the setup sounds excellent. The power of the Panasonic makes the Polks sound MUCH better than the lower watt Sony in there previously. It gives the MP Quart, full amped system in the other car a run for its money. And the ability to burn almost 20 discs in MP3 format onto one CD makes it like having a changer in the trunk (though it can hold more). I can be a bit of an audio snob and I was pleasantly surprised how nice a low cost system could sound.
