Just like your 9k did, the 16-valve 900s rely on the AMM to control FI until the O2 sensor warms up. You'll get bad running for the first 5 minutes or so, pretty much like you described.
On the other hand, if the NTC sensor is off-spec and tells the ECU that the engine is warmer then it actually is, the ECU won't enrich the mixture as much as it needs to be.
Bentley should have the NTC sensor resistances at various temperatures so he can check it with a meter. You can also do a search - there are a bunch of posts with the numbers.
