First, begin by disconnecting the battery and pulling out the radio. Also pull out the fuse to the clock in the dash board. Now hook the ammeter part of the voltmeter in series so you get a battery, ammeter, battery cable circuit. If there is still a current running the ammeter will register. We are assuming the drain is NOT in the dashboard, (which should cut out when you remove your key). Now, pull fuses until the ammeter goes to zero. Whichever fuse it was that caused you to go to zero is the offending circuit. Do this with the ignition in the OFF position with NO KEY INSERTED.
Now you need to trace that offending circuit. May be easy, like a light that is stuck in the "ON" position in the trunk, or more involved like a wire that is stripped and hiding under the carpet or inside the hidden most regions of the dashboard.
Sometimes the alternator itself goes bad, and the only sign is battery drain. You need to go to SEARS, Walmart, Auto Zone... for a free alternator check to discover that problem.
Best of luck.
