I don't think this car likes you very much!
The sudden shut down could be many things. Most problems are with distributor and ignition amplifier, but fuel pump relay or fuel pump can also go bad. I would take this one step at a time. If it doesn't happen again, maybe the car was just rejecting its new owner!
I'm not sure what's up with the speedo, but they are extremely cheap to buy used on ebay or a junkyard. Not to bad to replace either.
Power steering racks tend to leak right at the seal where the steering shaft is located, but this tends to be a slow and steady leak, not like what you describe. I would clean up the engine bay and then look for a blown hose leaking. Replacing the steering rack is one of the more challenging tasks on the C900. I would suggest to bring it to someone as the cost of labor is well worth the cost of pain and frustration for this job. I've replaced 3 racks now and each time I curse at myself for not bringing it in!
