Hi all,
With the onset of winter, I've noticed that it's hard sometimes to shift into 1st and 2nd, although it seems harder once the car warms up. When I first start the car, 1st is easy to shift into but shifting into 2nd has different symptoms. It does not grind per se, but there it does not shift smoothly into gear. It feels as if something is some friction and something is catching, as if the gears slip a little bit and then catch. Is this the clutch not being disengaged all of the way or is it the 2nd gear synchro (I've read that these are weak)? Would the cold affect the clutch, or is it just that the cold keeps the synchros from working properly? I just flushed with Honda MTF twice and this fall shifting seemed fine. The car has 193K and to the best of my knowledge the clutch has never been changed. I did bleed the clutch system with ATE Super Blue and don't notice any leaks.
Possible candidates for this are clutch pedal, clutch MC, clutch slave, clutch, or worn synchro right? Or is this completely normal? I usually just go easy on it when it's cold, but if there's something obvious I can do to fix it I'd like to do it before my tranny takes any more abuse from the grinding.
