Here is the problem chain I have experienced; I'm giving you the whole story because it might be related...
First, last Friday evening (when it was relatively chilly here in CT, about 4 degrees F), my '89 900 NA refused to start. Cranked the battery down & nothing. Got a ride to the gas station, got a can of dry gas, put it in the tank, and waited a little while. Cranked it some more. And more, and more, and.... Finally, after nearly killing off the vehicle used to jump start it, got it started.
I think this was ice in the fuel line. I will now put in a container of HEET with each fillup this winter!
On the way home, steam started coming from under the hood. Easy to diagnose; the coolant bypass elbow hose had a small leak at the elbow. And, as you all know, this part isn't available from your local parts store... needed to get it from the Saab stealership on Monday morning for about $28. Yikes... eeuro has it for about $5. Anyway, replaced that and used two new hose clamps. But I did drive like 50 miles (added coolant/water a couple of times to be sure that I didn't overheat; always kept some in the reservior) But everything in the front passenger side of the engine compartment was sprayed liberally with coolant.
Now... the car runs fine (or as well I can expect) when cold. But when warmed up, it experiences a bucking/hesitation. When not stressing the engine and trying to accelerate, it seems to run smoothly. When trying to accelerate, there is a lack of power, and instantly upon hitting the gas, it begins the bucking and hesitation. What could cause this? I did clean out the distributor cap, but I suppose coolant could have gotten in to the compartment where the plugs are (I don't have tools with me at my apartment to open it and see.) But it was definitely not exhibiting this behavior prior to the no-start incident.
What to do? The plugs/cap/wires aren't too old, but could this be the cause? Could it be something else? It really does run well when cold.
HELP!
Thanks in advance,
Jeremy
