by using a Digital mulitmeter on the A.C. volts position on the test socket on the fuse box. The pin to check is above the dimple to the left side of the socket, It should read around 5 volts A.C. what you are reading is a pulsing 0 to 12 volts DC signal which the meter reads as A.C. If your DMM is fitted with a frequency meter (Hz) it will read around 70 to 120 Hz depending on the idle speed..(this point is also connected to the Tach, if the tach drops suddenly you are losing the output from the ignition amp)This will point to either the ign amp or the Hall effect sensor, the hall effect sensor could probably be checked in a similar fashion by peeling back the rubber boot on the ign amp connector and checking pin 3, it would probably be an A.C. signal in the milivolt range, however, I have not checked it that way myself. What I did was run a pair of wires, one connected to ground and the other to the test socket pin 3, connect them to the meter and monitor the voltage while running, if the car dies while driving, leave it in gear to provide rotation to the engine the voltage will still be there if the problem is not the amp or hall effect sensor, you could do the same with pin three.. I had problems with the wiring to the ECU, the signal from pin three is connected by crimps lugs in a number of places under the fuse holder itself. I ended up running a new wire to the ECU..that cured my problem..John
