Laid out in the driveway in zero degree weather to put on a new muffler and a new turbo bypass valve on my 85 900 turbo because mine was a hooter valve. All I can say is the car is a completley different beast now.
I bought this car with a list of problems and have been fixing them steadily for two months. I had no prior experience with Saabs or turbo cars so I had no idea what to expect or what was "normal".
The new bypass valve has deffinatley been the single biggest improvement. The vac/boost needle is now in new territory on both ends of travel. Way more vacuum and nice smooth boost all the way up to the red(orange). No more bouncing boost needle or jerky acceleration. Used to be I could only get the needle up around half way in the yellow and it would bounce and the car too. Even my cold running is better, not perfect yet, but better, and it's been collld.
I want to thank all of you that helped me with answers to my questions and pointing me to faqs. If I can suggest anything to anyone that would be that between this site and the Bently service manual you have everything you need. Just be thorough in your research. The bently decribed the exact symptoms I was experiencing. I found it after I ordered the valve. My point is that the book came with the car and I've been using it to fix all sorts of problems. I'm sure I read that section before but I didn't remember it because of all of the other stuff I've fixed. I've posted a number of times on this site and got on chat just to find out information I had in front of me the whole time. I posted questions that were clearly answered in the faqs. I also want to give a special thanks to http://www.twinsaabs.com. It's where I got the info to redo my headliner and fix reverse, so they were instrumental in my decision to purchase the car in the first place. Thanks guys.
