I have painted two cars and two engine bays in the last two years in my one car garage. I removed everything from the bay because it seemed easier to remove the components than mask them off. Quite honestly it was alot of work, but I'm pleased with the results. Each bay took about a month to do....degrease thoroughly, sand paint chipped surfaces smooth, grind and treat rust, prime bare metal areas and sand again, mask everthing you don't want to get overspray on. That includes bagging the whole car, because if you don't, you will be using rubbing compound to remove the over spray from un-covered surfaces.

I prefer PPG products also even though they are pricey. My black 75EMS used about $100 worth of materials because there was no clearcoat needed. My 73EMS was a bit more because it was a metallic paint which required a clearcoat. You definately need a compressor and spray gun. I bought a Devilbis touch-up gun from Lowe's for $35 and it worked great for spraying small areas like the engine bay.
