Have someone help you to visually determine the cause.
With the hood open, have your helper look down to the axles, where each connect to the differential. The pass. side is fairly visible, but the driver side may require someone to lay on the ground to get a view.
Release the clutch, and see if the inner driver(s) turn when you release it. This will tell you whether or not you have power flowing thru to the differential. You should clearly see the ID's turning (probably just one of them) and the attached axle not moving. You may have to put the car on a lift to do this, unless your helper can get underneath. Might help to put the scissor jack under each side, one at a time. Just be careful to make sure the car does not move off the jack.
If neither ID will turn when the clutch is out, you have a broken connection upstream...perhaps clutch, main drive chain (or did you say automatic?).
Be very careful with whoever is under the car looking!
