bushing...then heat up the pigtail and tap the thing upside down...the solder drops off and the pigtail comes out.
You use the new bushings to crimp the pigtail on the new brush to the regulator, then solder the crimped bushing/pigtail.
First time I did it on a bosch regulator took me about an hour, collecting all the tools, etc. If I had to do it again, maybe 10 minutes.
Getting the regulator out is another matter. I got my brush kit from a BMW dealer for about $7 but that was a few years ago.
BTW...IPD sells an adjustable voltage regulator. I use one on my 740T volvo for about four years now, set at 14.2 volts. Works great, no battery issues. I use a delco sealed battery and they generally last 4-5 years although the last one lasted about six on the 87 900T.
