I'd suspect that the AIC valve, located right next to the front of the valve cover and thermostat housing, and throttle body are gummed up, or that you have vacuum leaks somewhere. Look for small brass vacuum nipples on the throttle body which don't have tubes of rubber covers on them.

To clean the AIC valve:

- Get some carb cleaner
- take off the plug on top of the unit
- remove the hose on the side of the valve
- loosen the 10-mm bolt on the ring that holds it in place and slide it up enough to remove the bottom hose
- have lots of news paper handy to catch the carb cleaner drips
- spray the inside of the valve with carb cleaner
- repeat until the shutter in the valve moves freely adn the carb cleaner drips out clear
- put it all back together

To clean the throttle body
- Get an old soft toothbrush and some paper towels
- Remove the rubber boot that connects the Air Mass Meter to the front of the throttle body
- gently open the throttle disc with the throttle bellcrank and spray carb cleaner in the opening, top and bottom, and gently brush it with the toothbrush.
- Gently soak up the residue with the paper towel
-repeat until the paper towel comes out almost clean
- put it all back together

These will take care of 90% of idle problems like that. IF you still have the searching idle, give the AIC valve a sharp rap with the wooden handle of a hammer and, if the idle calms down, the AIC valve is probably bad.
