Could I have a bad plug?

I have spark jumping through the boot about 1/2 an inch from the end. Its sparking at the end of the plug through the boot to the plug well wall. Thats a good 1/2 inch that the spark has to travel. I know the plugs have internal resistance along with a gap that the spark has to jump, but I find it odd that I developed this problem three days after I switched from NGKs to Bosch platinums. I don't know how old the wires are and it might be their time, but does this sound normal that the spark would jump like that? I've already bought new wires that i will install tomorrw morning, but what about the plug? It does idle ok and runs but when the timing advances and the engine revs up it sparks a lot more, especially when hot.
