timing chain continued from below

Sorry to move this up but I need to order parts asap. I'm experiencing the same thing as Chris R below. Noisy timing chain slapping the valve cover on deceleration. Mine is an 85 turbo with 115,000 miles on it. I'm pretty sure it has the old style tensioner, so definately need to replace that and the cover pad. Does anyone know what the reccomended replacement interval is for the chain? Can I take a measurement of say 5 links with a caliper and compare that to a known good value like you do when replacing valve springs etc? I recently had the cover off to put a new gasket on and everything looked great, sprocket teeth, chain. I'm just wondering if I can get away with just a tensioner and pad? I guess I should just go ahead and buy the chain to have on hand just in case.
