I remember my first alt removal experience before I knew of this board. What I thought would be maybe a 2 hour job, turned to an 8, in the rain. I ended up with the nastiest cold of my life. If you have AC, move out of way. You will have to remove the bracket that holds the ac and alt in place (om block). This will allow you to pivot the alt, bracket and slide bolt out. This will take some time, but it works. Now, if you have another bolt already, cut it off. Now go down and but a gasket that is used to mount oil filter housing to block. What you do is take that off and slide bolt in from left to right. Therefore if you ever have to do again, just take oil filter housing off-MUCH EASIER. Saab had there head's up their ass when they designed this.
Good luck
P.S. Before you do any of this make sure it's not just the brushes that need replacing.
