The general consensus is that bosch alternators don't go bad in saabs (9 times out of 10 anyway) and that it's usually the voltage regulator if the light is on. If you're at all mechanically inclined you can do it. It's mounted on the back of the altrnator. Loosen the tension on the alternator belts, pop them off, pull the alternator towards fender as far as you can. From there you should be able to see the black plastic voltage regulator and remove it. You may need a really small pair of vice grips for the far screw. Remove old and insert new. Make sure you get a bosch when you replace it. It's about $40 from eeuroparts.com or if you want you can solder new brushes in yours for about $5. I don't remember where to get just the brushes but search google and you'll find someone who sells them. All in all it's an easy job. If you opt to have a mechanic do it, it certainly shouldn't be more than an hour labor on the bill. Good Luck and welcome to the continum,
Eric
