Thanks for the votes of confidence! I will need them- see below;

So there i am with $$ in hand and I'm double checking the VIN against the 1990 #s (thanks Scott)- no match!

I tell the guy- this is not a '90 and he says, "I thought I told you it was an '89 - my wife put in the paper wrong." Then the automatic seat belt thing comes slamming back into my head- only on 89s!!!

I wasn't exactly pissed, but a bit annoyed. I was ready to walk, but asked for 10 minutes to "think." I sat in the car- took a walk around again, and even started it (smooth). You guessed it- after a bit of haggeling and a call to the insurnace company, I was on the road.

It gets better. 10 miles down the road- I'm shifting up like normal- NO 5TH!! GONE! JUST LIKE THAT. Again- not pissed, a bit excited I have an excuse to match what I'm going to do to the engine to a new tran!! Glass is always 1/2 FULL!! Perhaps a linkage adjustment is all??

More and a happy ending. I "limp" home in 4th (the long way)- try out the cruise and it actually worked, as did the heated seats!! Not like I really cared, but my '94 CEs don't even work.

Pull into the drive way- see my neighbor who walks over. Need to talk to him about "parking rights" now that I have another sled. When he asks, I tell him the car is 15 years old- he nearly shit. That's how sweat this car looks. You guessed again- glad I made the deal final.
