When you're in those financial straits, and you're DIYing, you don't really need to replace the clutch disc and pressure plate. As long as the clutch disc isn't worn down to the rivets, that is.
There's no difference in labor between replacing the just slave and installing a new pressure plate, slave, and clutch disc.
You may want to consider replacing the pilot bearing, just because a new one is so cheap and a new one can make a big difference in shifting if the old one is binding. That takes a little additional labor because you ahve to take the flywheel off.
When my slave went out, I replaced the slave, got a used disc from a pick-n-pull, and installed a new pilot bearing.
