Adjusting the rear brakes, and getting it right Posted by Saana88 [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I put in a set of new rear brake pads in December. In doing this, I followed Bentley to the letter and turned the piston adjusting screws all the way out to press the piston back and fit new pads, then tightened them until they rubbed, and then backed them off a quarter to half turn. Now, after five tries to readjust them, the brakes will either drag all the time or make a groaning and rubbing noise, especially in reverse. Are there any hints to doing this right? A quarter to half a turn does not seem to be too specific.
The left rear parking brake cable has siezed so I did not reconnect it, and that caliper is hanging up (slowly). Those don't help, but will they make the problem happen?
I would really like to get this done right since the last time it was done it was done right and the car has gone 75k since then.
I'll replace the caliper and cable in another week or two.
