I did this on my 90 turbo which the a/c wasn't working on and it was quite easy. First, have to make sure that there is no freon in the system, which can either be done by taking it to a shop (i tried to call around and see what it would cost to purge system...all a/c shops said $25...called my local indie and he said he would do it for free). Next thing I did was remove the compressor by cutting the hoses and belt and unbolting mounting bracket which frees up a lot of space in the engine bay ( if your compressor is in good condition, it might be worth a few bucks to someone). Next i removed the evaporator located near the passenger fender well. I cut a piece of cardboard to cover up the hole in the fresh air inlet and screwed it back in place. Next i removed the receiver/drier which is located in front of the passenger wheel down inside the fender. I also removed the condenser which was extremely easy once the bumper was removed. I had to buy an 8mm allen socket and put it on a long extension. I have noticed much lower coolant temps since doing this.
