6 Cylinder Engine - Toast

We sold our daughter our 1994 SAAB 900SE 6 Cylinder about 3 months ago. Yesterday she was driving it and it blew a gasket and died. The Saab dealership said the engine was "toast" and that it would cost $8,000 to repair. I checked with someone else who repairs Saabs and he said he will not even work on a 6 cylinder Saab and that the engines were almost impossible to find. Has anyone had this problem with the 6 cylinder?
I am sick because I thought we were selling her a safe dependendable car and now it will cost twice the amount the car is worth. This is my third Saab and I have never had a problem like this with the 4 cylinders. Any suggestions as to what I can do?
Thanks.
