Bizarre auto-transmission shifting problem . . . help!

Hey there,
I wonder if anyone can help me diagnose a problem. I just got my '93 900S convertible back from the repair shop (crack addict decided to slash the top and bust the CD player -- though he was kind enough to leave his crack pipe behind), and now the automatic transmission shifter doesn't slide as easily as it did. The shop said they didn't touch the transmission, but I'm trying desperately to figure out what might have happened so that I can compel them to repair it!
Can anyone think of why the shifter would become considerably more difficult to shift? Did someone spill something in it? Did they bend it while trying to fix the CD player? Or shift it wrong while driving it? Any quick help would be most gratefully appreciated . . . it's a problem I've never heard of, or encountered -- but if I don't come up with some strong theories, I'm afraid the repair bill is going to be on me!
Thanks a million, folks.
