Report on R134 conversion for those considering it

I finished my conversion to R134 about three weeks ago, but today is the first day in which it was warm enough (89 degrees) to get a good idea of how the AC is going to work.
I have an '87 turbo with the original compessor. My hoses were in good shape so I didn't replace them. I used lacquer thinner to flush the evaporator and the condensor. I used mineral spirits to flush the hoses. I also flushed the compressor with mineral spirits, which I know some say not to do. Blew out lines with compressed air. Also replaced receiver/dryer and the expansion valve.
Filled with 8 oz. of esther oil and then pulled a vacuum. Charged with 24 oz. of R134 which is less than the recomended 80% of the R12 capacity.
With the ambient temp at 89 I am getting 42 degrees at Idle from the center vent (all other vents closed, AC on max-recirc). When cruising in 5th gear at aprox. 50mph and 2500 rpm the temp is reading 34 degrees. These numbers are only about two degrees warmer than my brother's 2002 Ford Expedition was under the same conditions.
I'm near Palm Springs, so the test will come this summer when the temp is north of 115 degrees. Although, a lot of AC systems have a tough time in that environment weather they are retrofits or not.
If anybbody is thinking of retrofitting their AC my recomendation is to definitely do it as I am realy pleased with the results. I never expected to perform this well. I think the key was removing as much of the old oil as I could. My costs were $40 for the dryer and expansion valve from eeuroparts.com, $15 for the oil and 2 cans of R134 and $10 for a gallon of mineral spirits and and a gallon lacquer thinner.
