More than likely, whatever remains is spread throught the entire system - the evaporator and the condensor being the largest repositories. The way to purge the entire system is to dismantle it completely, pour mineral spirits or other solvent through one side and flush through, then use compressed air to blow out the remaining mix of oil and solvent. If you want to just drain the compressor, there may be a way to rotate it in such a way so that the fill/drain opening is facing down. Other than that, you can easily remove the two main hoses which will allow you to completely remove the unit. More than perhaps what you wish to do, but it's not too difficult. If you're intending to redo the whole system at some point in the near future, you may be able to get away with not flushing and just having the system recharged. More than likely it will work, but just not as efficiently (not as cold) as it should.
I did a complete DIY redo of my 20 year old AC system, converting to R134a in the process. After two years of acceptable cool temps in the hottest weather, I just recently had to recharge it back to normal pressure. Two years is not bad at all for minimal expense.
