Fuel pump problems...

Well, its that time again...somethings almost always broken :)
I noticed that the fuel pump dosent buzz (prime) when the ignition is turned on anymore. When running the buzz almost sounds like feedback from the rear speakers...but I have no stereo installed (some may recall a thief destroying my dash awhile ago) and the noise is definetly coming from under the trunk floor. Also, when putting my foot into it yesterday it started sputtering and shortly after words died at an intersection. Fortunately she started back up after being pushed to the side of the road and brought me home safe and sound. After reading the boards I decided to fill the tank as somewhere it was mentioned it helps sometimes. Now that the tank is full the fuel pump is a little quieter, but it sure seems noisey lately. So now I could use some advice. I just checked into the cost of a new pump and fuel filter, and <sarcasm> wow, the pump is only $320 </sarcasm> brand new. I'm going to get the fuel filter today, but my question is if the new fuel filter dosent solve my problems should I buy a new fuel pump, or find one at a wrecking yard? I'm not sure if this is a common problem part or if a used on should be good enough. Thanks for any advice you can offer!
