The classic convertible car is great. I got an '87 900 turbo convertible last summer...my 6th Saab but first convertible. I agree with others who answered you that the design is timeless and very attractive. I LOVE this car! If you are reasonably mechanically inclined there are many things you can do yourself if needed.

In your area you have a Saab dealer in Shaker Heights (Shaker Saab), one in Bedford and one in Akron, plus at least one independent that I know of on Miles Road just east of I-271. You have the North Coast Saab Club that is based in Cleveland and us in the Saab Club of Central Ohio to your south. So you have lots of local support in addition to this awesome bulletin board on Saabnet.

If you find a car in your area I'd contact the North Coast Club and see if someone can help you look it over. For the record mine was $4,200 and had 82.5k on the odometer when I bought it. I had to spend about $2,000 on a few safety related items, a radiator and an oil leak. I've been spending alot on it since then but only on stuff I wanted to upgrade such as free flow stainless steel exhaust, new stereo and a whole host of little things to spruce it up back to near original standards. Ebay is a fantasic source of new old stock (NOS) parts and many of us scour it every day, buying things just to have on the shelf as spares.

To get a great car with low miles you'll have to look hard and for a while. I'd use Saabnet classifieds, Ebay, and all of the online car classified search engines you can find. This is what I did and it took me about 3 months to find the right car for me. If you go the Ebay route, or anything for that matter that is not close to home, see if you can get a local Saab specialist to inspect it for you...it would be well worth the money. Or if you travel to buy something make sure you have transportation both ways in case when you get there it is a piece of junk...I used frequent flyer miles to go get mine but I had a return ticket "just in case."
