I think the best that you can hope for is about $5K if you have a good insurer. I know that my SPG is worth double that to me but unfortunately insurance writers could care less about what you do to it. Overall condition only makes up about 20-30% of the worth. Engine and transmission probably account for one third of that. Car #1 has 500K showing the rings are shot and the crank visibly rocks back and forth in the race at idle... but it does idle and it manages to somehow move under its own power. The insurance company views that car the same as if it were Car #2. Car #2 is the same year but has 5K on a ground up rebuild. The registration shows 180K but we know that to be untrue. The insurance company couldn't care less. That is unless you have an agent but very few people plan that well and most deal with mega-insurers like Geico where you get to deal with it over the phone with someone being paid a commission for screwing you.
