Shiftershaft seal maybe? This seal is best left to a Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Gearbox rod oil seal?, Rick, Wed, 17 Mar 2004 21:37:04 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Saab shop. It only takes about 1 hour to replace with the right tools and the seal is around $20.00
For a DIY (maybe without a car lift) it can be a handful to first get the old one out and press the new one in.
When taking the old seal out it's possible to scratch and dent the shifter shaft if not careful and after that the new seal will never work properly and the transmission will spit the oil out in no time.
One of my customers had the seal replaced at another shop (before he started to come to me) and they butchered the shaft to the point where he lost 2q of transmission oil between every engine oil changes (3000 miles).
I tried to put a new seal in but it didn't work because of the scratches already made in the shaft.
