shaft that goes into the transmission, not the engine rear crankshaft seal (which sounds like what you had replaced.)
If the primary seal gets nicked or somehow the spring gets knocked off, the oil that primary chains bring up will just dribble out past the non-sealing seal.
If this started suddenly after the clutch change, it may be the case. It's always possible that there's a problem with the shift shaft seal. But, whatever the source, you'll want to fill the transmission and let the car idle with cardboard or newspaper underneath it to locate the leak.
If he was an inexperienced with SAABs and did something like change the engine oil, draining it from the rear plug (instead of the correct one in the front), that would certainly give you a dry transmission, too.
