My Haynes manual tells me to measure in from the case to the top of the nut holding the spindle bearing.it says to adjust this clearence with shims on top of the spindle nut.
My question regards the shims under the bearing carrier. What measurement is used to determine their stacked thickness?
I assume, if the nut is too low in the housing, you use shims on top of the nut. If the nut is too high in the housing, you add shims under the bearing carrier housing. Is this so?
