The 2.1L engine is known for corrosion and yes it could very well be deep enough damage to your car that it requiers a new or used engine.
The repair bulletin from Saab using JB weld to fill up the pitting I don't give a cent for.
How they beleive that a blob of JB weld is suppose to cling onto the engine block/coolant canal when the cylinder head is torqued down is beyond me.
Yes, if you would have a crater corroded in the middle somewhere with cast iron all around, I can see that the JB would work and stay in place, but the corroded parts are always right around the cooling channels.
It might even be in your case that the corroded area have stretched out under where the combustion chamber seal ring resides. In that case a new engine block is needed.
