I removed the ones on my '94 CE- I think it looks more "smooth." Makes waxing easier. Call me an 'anti-badge' Saab guy.
So far- no dings, and I'm not sure the thin strips do much to prevent it. The older and think ones from the 80s seemed better.
A caution- the clear coat under the tape was a bit blemmished. Seemed that the tape and clear coat "mixed" after all of those years?? I had her painted- so it mattered little for me. Start with rear badges and see what you think.
