The ECU (computer) failure has happened to several SAABs with 16-valve engines, though it seems to be most common to the 1989-90 models. Mom's '90 base 900 had this happen; fortunately, though, there was a kind SAABer here who sold me a good used one cheap. (New ECUs are VERY expensive.)
Your '92 base 900 has the 2.1 Liter engine, so it needs an ECU--LH 2.4.2 computer on yours. (These were used in 1991-1993 non-turbo 900 cars.)
I don't know what the symptoms of yours are exactly, but sounds similar to Mom's '90 when the ECU died. My old posts on it are:

Also, it could just be the fuel pump relay, perhaps:

Then again, make sure the ignition signal is working--see if the tachometer needle jumps while trying to crank the motor. If so, that isn't the culprit.
