The major brands I've tried over the past several decades have been BFG, Michelin & Pirelli. Maybe I'm choosing the wrong models from the others, but I think the BFG T/A series are far & away the best value for the money. In most brands, the 195/60s are often a few bucks cheaper than the 185/65s.
Michelins are nice, but their cost isn't in line with their performance (for me). And the Pirelli P400s I've got right now are OK, but I don't like them nearly as well as my last set of BFG T/As. They're a little quiter than the BFGs, but they don't corner as well, their snow traction is worse, & they're the only tires I've ever had that develop flat spots from sitting overnight. And neither brand lasts any longer than the T/As.
As much as I hate buying stuff which doesn't last, I can't wait for these Pirellis to wear out enough to justify buying new BFGs.
