Hint to anyone that doesn't already know this...
Shifting very quickly puts a lot of stress on your synchros and can reduce by half or more the lifespan of those parts, requiring the dreaded two thousand dollar Saab transmission repair. If you pause mid-shift (in neutral) just the right amount of time for the gear speeds to match up, it will fall into the next gear with virtually no help from the synchronizer. You can feel it snick effortlessly into place. The length of the pause is determined by how high you revved the previous gear. The synchronizers are the weak point in a transmission, which is why they don't put them in big trucks at all (too much torque...were talking around 1,500 ft-lbs at 1,200 rpm) and you have to pump the clutch pedal in neutral in-between shifts and time it just perfectly, or it won't go into the next gear at all. That's why they Porsche invented synchronizers. I'll bet if you bought a new Saab twenty-five years ago and were always gentle on your synchros you could have 300,000 miles on an original 4-speed that never needed anything other than clutch jobs.
