Should there be grease in the master cylinder? Posted by Saabpilot [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I just removed my master cylinder to replace it. Long story. Suffice it so say the seals are shot. The one I ordered doesn't fit. That's a whole other story. My car is an '87 and the one I have fits up to '86. The electronic parts CD I have says it is a cross referenced part but trust me it is not! So I ordered a new correct model from Eeuroparts.
However, I noticed inside the vacuum booster there is a plunger type thing that protrudes inside the master cylinder. It has what appears to be coagulated grease on and around it. I've never replaced a master cylinder before but my gut tells me this grease-like substance shouldn't be there.
Second half of the question: I am going out of town tomorrow morning for 6 days. Since yesterday afternoon my car has been sitting on jack stands with no master cylinder. Is there any danger in leaving my brake lines exposed and open to the elements? Do I just do a normal fill and bleed once I get the new master cylinder installed, which will be very late next Saturday evening?
Thanks.
