One man's chatter is another man's vibration. One cause of vibration during acceleration is worn inner drivers. They're the short cylindrical things coming out of the transmission that the axles from the wheels gozinta.
They're covered by a rubber boot, similar to the rubber boots further out on the axle that cover the CV joints.
The inner drivers have three cups in them that drive the tripod/spherical bearings of the spiders on the inner axle. Worn cups or spider bearings can lead to vibration on acceleration.
The whining, however, makes me suspect the pinion bearing has lost its preload and/or pinion bearing bracket/mount has cracked (which is generally the cause of loss of preload).
Pull the trans and have it fixed.
