fixed vac. hoses, now SPG wont start, fuel smell from Posted by Saabu [Email] ![]() ![]() |
exhaust.
its an 86 SPG we are going to strip, however i'd like to get the engine working as well as possible before the strip job, in order to know its pros and cons.
Funnily enough it was running fairly ok with a bunch of vacuum hoses disconnected.
for instance the turbo guage did not work because PO had deleted vacuum line to the dash entirely (no hose thru firewall).
To try and get the guage working, i reconnected the manifold-to-turbo sensor hose thru the firewall and ensured they were all correct by comparing to my 87 SPG. ON cranking the turbo guage started reacting.
i hooked up the dash vacuum connection that connects to switches at clutch, brake and drivers side footwell servo, and then goes out to left front wheel well and up to front of car. The vacuum dist. switch started working at that point.
The BPV is shot (doesnt hold vacuum) but the car ran originally with it hooked up to the manifold. to plug off the BPV i tried capping the nipple off and deleting the manifold connection but the car still didnt catch.
i checked all other connections vacuum wise and all are correctly hooked up (ie FPR, line to reservoir, lines to charcoal canister).
the car cranks and occasionally sort of goes putt softly, but doesnt catch.
there is a heavy smell of fuel so its not from a lack of fuel.
just looking for ideas
-switch in a known good AMM?
I'm kind of lost now, because i havent worked much on this kind of problem before.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
