LH 2.2 was barely good when it was new! LH was the successor to L-Jetronic, introduced in or around 1983 I believe. Saab first used it in 1984 in the 900T16 in Europe, and in 1985 in the 900 Turbo in the US. By that point, Motronic was available which was substantially more advanced, including integrated ignition management and self-diagnostics. LH, by comparison did not make provision for any management other than fuel, and it's diagnostic capability was law-compliant but nothing more.
There is a reason why Volvo abandoned LH 2.2 within 3 years, and Saab within 4. It was very simple, and very rudimentary, and fairly inflexible. In Saab's case, however, it probably worked out well since APC was probably a bit of a wild variable in terms of engine management - I always suspected that's why it took Turbos a couple extra years after non-turbos to move to 2.4. 2.4 compared to today's run-of-the-mill EFI is still extremely simple, but worlds better than 2.2. But heck, today's 32-bit RISC-based units make home computers from the '80s look simple!
